Why history is important

According to Penelope J. Corfield, history studies the past and the legacies of the past in the present. Far from being a 'dead' subject, it connects things through time and encourages its students to take a long view of such connections. History is a very important subject that should be known by academic students and also the society. History is very important and should be kept in every generation for reference. Keeping history has developed Zimbabwe a lot by bringing in foreign currency through its historical walls of great Zimbabwe that are being used for tourism purposes. Here are some of the important points to note about the importance of history

It determines the future

People uses history for comparison. It is very important to compare the past life and then determine what the future will be like. This is mainly used in environmental and weather departments. They look at a weather of a particular day and try to predict how it will be like the following day though they will use some machines.

It brings understanding of the current life

It is very important to know how we came to be what we are. By studying history will get to know how the country we are living in got to this status that it is holding. We get information about what used to happen before we were born, like information about the liberation struggle which is now helping us with the understanding of where we came as nation.
Brings solution to current problems
Whenever anything happens, the history can be used to track how it was previously solved and the same solution can be used for that particular problem too.

Used for entertainment

It is very entertaining to listen to the elders talking about the history of anything. It is also interesting to read historic books therefore it acts as a way of entertainment.
